[edit]From Proto-Oceanic *boŋi-boŋi (“early morning”) (cognates with Samoan pogipogi (“dawn, dusk, twilight”) and Tongan pongipongi (“morning, tomorrow”))[1][2] reduplicate of *boŋi (see pō for more details, also compare with Samoan pogi, Hawaiian poni), from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *bəʀŋi (compare with Javanese wengi)[3]
