[edit]From Old Iranian. Akin to Iranian borrowings Jewish Babylonian Aramaic פַרְוָונְקָא (parwānqā, “guide; messenger”), Classical Syriac ܦܲܪܘܵܢܩܵܐ (parwānqā, “guide; messenger”), Classical Mandaic ࡐࡀࡓࡅࡀࡍܩࡀ (parwānqā, “redeemer, savior”). Compare also Persian فرانه (farâne), فرانک (farânak).
