From Old Iranian. Akin to Iranian borrowings Jewish Babylonian Aramaic פַרְוָונְקָא (parwānqā, guide; messenger), Classical Syriac ܦܲܪܘܵܢܩܵܐ (parwānqā, guide; messenger), Classical Mandaic ࡐࡀࡓࡅࡀࡍܩࡀ (parwānqā, redeemer, savior). Compare also Persian فرانه (farâne), فرانک (farânak).
