From Margherita of Savoy, the Queen of Italy, at the time the pizza pie was renamed/formally named in her honour/honor, with the colours/colors of the Italian flag of reunification, red (tomato), white (mozzarella), green (basil). Pizza topped in this manner was already traditional in Naples before acquiring its current name.
