Swedish
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Compound of pilsner (“pilsner”) + korv (“sausage”), as it was originally served together with beer. First attested in 1934[1].
Noun
[edit]pilsnerkorv c
- A type of small boiled sausage or hot dog (originally served as a substantial snack with beer).
- 1917 October 2, “Ölkaféerna och de nya restriktionerna [Beer cafés and the new restrictions]”, in Aftonbladet, via Svenska tidningar, page 6:
- Så länge priset på restriktionsmaten var satt till endast 15 öre, gick det ju an att till ölet servera en bakelse eller en tårtbit och i värsta fall ens. k. pilsnerkorv, som ju var lätttillagad.
- As long as the price for the restriction food was set at only 15 öre, it was possible to serve a pastry or a piece of cake with the beer, and in the worst case, a so-called pilsner sausage, which was easy to prepare.
