Inherited from Old Danish pelegrimsfærth, from Old Norse pílagrímsferð.[1] By surface analysis, pilgrim +‎ -s- +‎ færd. Compare Faroese and Icelandic pílagrímsferð, Norwegian Bokmål and Norwegian Nynorsk pilegrimsferd, Swedish pilgrimsfärd.
