[edit]Borrowed from English pidgin, from pidgin English, from a Chinese Pidgin English pronunciation of English business during trade in the Far East. The English word business itself is from Middle English busines, busynes, businesse, bisynes, from Old English bisiġnes (“business, busyness”), equivalent to busy + -ness. Doublet of peejnej.
