[edit]From Proto-Inuit *piviɣ (“time or place”), from Proto-Eskimo *piviɣ (“direction, time or place for something”). Compare piffissaq (“time”). Probably formed from the prefix pi (“meaningless prefix”) and suffix -vik (“time or place”).
