[edit]From pickpack (“bag and baggage”), originally from pack (“baggage; supply”). According to SAOB attested since 1620.
Compare with the rhyming structure of hipp som happ (“willy-nilly”), krimskrams, mischmasch, sicksack, sliddersladder, snicksnack, tingeltangel, virrvarr.
Compare with Danish pik og pak, Norwegian pikk og pakk, and German mit Sack und Pack.
