[edit]From peri- + Cynthia (“Artemis, the Moon”) + -ion, from Ancient Greek περι- (peri-) + Κυνθία (Kunthía, “Artemis”). Compare perihelion, periastron.

- The point in an elliptical orbit around the moon that passes closest to the moon.
