[edit]Possibly from elision of /l/ from earlier variant palid, from Proto-Philippine *palij (“blow away”), ultimately from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *palij (“blown away by the wind”). Compare Ilocano palig, Kapampangan paid, Hiligaynon palid, and Maranao palid.
