pausation (countable and uncountable, plural pausations)

  1. (formal) A pause, or arrangement of pauses, as in poetry.
    • 1878, James Henry, Aeneidea, page 430:
      Wagner, with more prudence than Servius, leaves the pausation, and with the pausation the cadence and symmetry of the verse, as he found it; []
    • 1956, Kansas. State Department of Public Instruction, A Curriculum Guide for the Elementary Schools of Kansas (page 66)
