[edit]Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Russian палтус (paltus), either with feminine suffix -ка (-ka) (not expected for the Russian ancestor word), either from diminutive masculine form палтусок (paltusok). The Russian word itself is from Proto-Samic *pāltēs, of unknown further origin. Probably not related to Southern Norwegian paltosk (“brown crab”).
