  1. (grammar) A grammatical case that primarily indicates location or movement from or towards a location. Most of them are used of time as well.

The number and exact meaning of locational cases vary by language. In modern Finnish there are six of them, grouped as sisäpaikallissijat (internal locational cases), which are inessive, elative and illative and ulkopaikallissijat (external locational cases), which are adessive, ablative and allative. In other languages they include locative, apudessive, intrative, subessive, superessive, delative, egressive, initiative, lative, sublative, terminative, perlative, prosecutive, vialis etc.
