[edit]Borrowed from South Slavic, ultimately either from Proto-Slavic *pàdati (“fall”) whence Serbo-Croatian nà-padati / на̀-падати (“to attack”)[1][2] or from Proto-Slavic *pǫditi (“to chase”) whence Macedonian пади (padi, “to chase out”).[3][4]
