The Cafe Central Coffee plaque, Calle Santa Maria, off Plaza de la Constitucion, Malaga

Etymology

[edit]

Inherited from Latin nūbēs, from Proto-Indo-European *(s)newdʰ- (to cover). In Old Spanish, it was written nuve, nué.[1]

The coffee was named by don José Prado Crespo, the founder of Café Central in Malaga. Tired of the difficulty of understanding the orders of customers, he created a plaque on the tiled wall listing 10 types of coffee by their coffee and milk content. Some of the terms used were words that hadn't been asociated with coffee before, like "nube".
