[edit]From Proto-Finnic *nockëda, from Proto-Finno-Permic *ńočka (“bend, curve; bent, flexible”). Related to Ingrian notkia, Karelian notkie, Veps notked and Erzya нучкамс (nučkams, “to bend”).
