Egyptian

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

Perhaps compare Hebrew נָאַף for the ‘copulate’ sense, but as the Egyptian verbs are likely identical, with a basic meaning of ‘to leap’, a connection with the Hebrew term is doubtful.
