neopenis

From Wiktionary, the free dictionary

English

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

From neo- +‎ penis.

Noun

[edit]

neopenis (plural neopenises)

  1. A surgically constructed penis, as of a transgender man who has undergone sex reassignment surgery, or a cisgender man who lacked a penis due to a congenital defect, illness, or injury.
    Coordinate term: neovagina
    • 1994, Gordene Olga MacKenzie, Transgender nation:
The neopenis can only become erect by inserting stiff material into it or by having plastic tubes implanted into the groin, so that pressing a bulb will cause the penis to hydraulically inflate with fluid and erect.
    • 2015, Vincenzo Mirone, Clinical Uro-Andrology, page 39:
Although many of the phalloplasty techniques may achieve closely the goals of a neopenis with normal urination, none of them are perfect, and therefore none have achieved universal acceptance.
