[edit]Etymology
[edit]Likely borrowed from Czech nářečí or from Russian наречие (narečije).[1]
Pronunciation
[edit]Noun
[edit]nárjēčje n (Cyrillic spelling на́рје̄чје)
- dialect cluster
Usage notes
[edit]- Although technically synonyms, there is a difference in the usage of narječje and dijalekt. The former is used for larger dialect clusters (e.g. Kajkavian, Chakavian, Shtokavian, Torlak), while the latter tends to be used for subdivisions within them, as a classificatory unit above a subdialect.
