[edit]From Old Norse næpa, a loanword, probably from Old English nǣp, from Latin nāpus (“rutabaga, rapeseed”), from Ancient Greek νᾶπυ (nâpu), σίνᾱπυ (sínāpu), σίνᾱπι (sínāpi, “mustard”), from Egyptian.
