[edit]Etymology 1
[edit]Borrowed from German Muselmann. According to Witold Pilecki, a Polish World War II cavalry officer and KL-Auschwitz prisoner, the term started to be used by German guards in the Auschwitz concentration camp. It derived from the fact that extremely exhausted prisoners would crouch and they resembled Muslims during a prayer.
