muruanha
Appearance
Old Tupi
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Navarro derives it from meru (“fly”) + ãî (“toothed”) + -a,[1] but the E>U change is unexplained. Possibly an alternative form *mberuanha existed, as seen in the Portuguese borrowing beruanha, but wasn't recorded.
