[edit]From Ottoman Turkish مومجی (mumcu, “chandler”), equivalent to mum (“wax; candle”) + -cu.

- chandler, a maker or seller of candles
- (historical) matchlock-man, a soldier employed as a bodyguard
- (historical) the title given to each of the twelve officers in the first establishment of the janissaries
