[edit]Borrowed from Bulgarian мушкато (muškato) or Hungarian muskáta, from German Muskat, from Middle High German muscāt, from Old French muscate, from Late Latin muscata, from muscus, from Ancient Greek μόσχος (móskhos), from Middle Persian [script needed] (mwšk' /mušk/), from Sanskrit मुष्क (muṣka, “testicle”). Cognates include Polish muszkat.
