@Bogdan; According to DER (1958-1966) from German, through a Hungarian intermediary. Does this make sense? --Robbie SWE (talk) 18:12, 8 March 2021 (UTC)
- It certainly makes sense there is a German intermediary, borrowing it from Latin. Hungarian did get many words from Medieval Latin, mostly related to administration or religion (like we did from Church Slavonic), but probably less so with scientific words. At the time, Budapest did not have a university, unlike Prague or Kraków, or the German-speaking world. Bogdan (talk) 19:54, 8 March 2021 (UTC)
- Actually, I saw at Muskat that it was not directly from Latin, but rather through Old French, so I added that as well. Bogdan (talk) 19:56, 8 March 2021 (UTC)
