[edit]Borrowed from Polish migdał, from Latin amygdalum, ultimately from Ancient Greek ᾰ̓μῠγδᾰ́λη (ămŭgdắlē, “almond, peach stone”). Compare Italian amigdala, Russian минда́ль (mindálʹ), Yiddish מאַנדל (mandl). Doublet of amigdalo.
