Probably from a Vulgar Latin *miscitāre, present active infinitive of *miscitō, from Latin misceō (I mix). Compare Ladin mescedèr, Venetan mesedar, Romansch mischedar, maschadar, archaic or literary Italian miscidare, mescidare; cf. also mestare.
