mermithid (plural mermithids)

  1. (zoology) Any member of the family Mermithidae of nematode worms that are endoparasites in arthropods.
    • 1975, George O. Poinar, Entomogenous Nematodes: A Manual and Host List of Insect-nematode Associations:
      Mermithids are occasionally found, but spirurids, so common in the above 2 groups, are lacking in the Grylloidea, as are other groups of nematodes.
