Etymology
[edit]The etymology remains unknown. Nişanyan disregards any relation with the placename Menemen and proposes that it's ultimately derived from or related to Ancient Greek μάλαγμα (málagma, “emollient, cataplasm; padding”).[1] Modern Greek μενεμέν (menemén) is a borrowing from Turkish.
