Cognate with Burmese မိုး (mui:, “sky, rain(n.)”) (From Old Burmese မိုဝ် (muiw)), Tibetan རྨུ་བ (rmu ba, “fog”), Old Chinese 霧 (*moɡs, “fog”), Tangut 𗹦 (*mə¹, “sky, heaven”), Horpa mɑ mqɑ (“sky”), Nuosu ꃅ (mu, “sky (in compounds)”). Compare with Lhao Vo mug: , Zaiwa mau, Hpon tămù and Longchuan Achang mau³¹.
