Etymology

[edit]

mansikka +‎ -inen

Pronunciation

[edit]
  • IPA(key): /ˈmɑnsikːɑi̯nen/, [ˈmɑ̝ns̠ik̚ˌkɑ̝i̯ne̞n]
  • Rhymes: -ɑinen
  • Hyphenation(key): man‧sik‧kai‧nen

Adjective

[edit]

mansikkainen (comparative mansikkaisempi, superlative mansikkaisin)

  1. strawberryish (including strawberries to the extent that it characterizes the taste and feel of a food or drink)
  2. strawberryish (having the aroma of strawberry)

Usage notes

[edit]
  • A technical adjective for "including strawberries" is mansikkapitoinen.
  • When talking about taste, the use of the word mansikkainen usually indicates that the taste occurs naturally. The presence of actual strawberry is not a must, as e.g. a wine may be mansikkainen. In connection with artificial strawberry aroma, mansikanmakuinen is a better choice for adjective.
