[edit]From Proto-Philippine *ma-nakit, from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *ma-ñakit, from *sakit. Analyzed as man- + sakit. Cognate with Indonesian menyakiti (“to cause pain to someone”), Sundanese ᮙᮑᮊᮤᮒ᮪ (manyakit, “sickness; complaint; disease”).
