Circumfix

- (instrumentative circumfix) used to form nouns indicating a place or concept where the action expressed by the root is performed
- (adjectival circumfix) used to form adjectives indicating the root is intended for
- dalawa (“two”) + pang- -an → pangdalawahan (“for two”)
- matagal (“long (of a period of time)”) + pang- -an → pangmatagalan (“for long-term”)
Usage notes
[edit]- Normally, /h/ is inserted before -an when the root word ends with a vowel that is not followed by a glottal stop.
- bili + pang- -an → pamilihan
- dalawa + pang- -an → pangdalawahan
