[edit]From Proto-Slavic *modliti, from Proto-Balto-Slavic *maldī́ˀtei, from Proto-Indo-European *meldʰ-. Cognate with Upper Sorbian modlić, Polish modlić, Czech modlit, Russian моли́ть (molítʹ), Old Church Slavonic молити (moliti).
