[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Southern Philippine *ləNtiq (“thunder”), from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *lətiq (“thunder and lightning together”). Compare Kapampangan alti, Bikol Central linti, Cebuano linti, Hiligaynon linti, Waray-Waray linti, Maranao leti, Tboli letek, and Tausug luti'. The vulgar sense is from the Filipino animist belief of damnation by being struck by lightning.
