Etymology

[edit]

Borrowed from Norwegian Nynorsk leggje ned (lay down) mixed with liggje. The sense was probably influenced by phrase legg deg ned, literally "lie you down, (and take a rest)" (similar to Russian приляг (priljag)).

Verb

[edit]

ligene

  1. to lie (to be in a horizontal position), to lay, to rest

Usage notes

[edit]

May be used referring not only to humans, but inanimate objects too. Never attested in a rude context, unlike Norwegian Nynorsk gå og legg deg.
