1. (transitive) to pull/tear something or someone off (to remove something or someone suddenly, with force, from a higher place (separative suffixes) to a lower place (lative suffixes))

2. (transitive, figuratively) to lambaste, knock (to criticize harshly, usually with unfair severity)
