Finnish
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Finnic *lanko, borrowed from an unknown derivation of Proto-Germanic *langōną (whence Old English ġelangian, Old High German gilangōn). The original meaning was simply "relative", shifting into "relative by marriage, in-law" and finally "brother-in-law".
