[edit]From Ottoman Turkish لاقردی (lakırdı, “anything said, talk, conversation”) or لقردی,[1] from Ottoman Turkish لك (lak, lek, “idle words, nonsense”),[2] from Proto-Turkic *lak (“onomatopoeic for; tongue clicking, clucking sound”),[3] morphologically lak + -ır + -tı.
