Etymology

Probably from Proto-Indo-European *gew- (to bend, curve; arch, vault), with the original meaning possibly being "a room at the top corner of a castle", and related to Persian گوشه (guše, corner, angle) and Avestan 𐬔𐬀𐬊𐬱𐬀𐬐𐬀 (gaošaka, corner).[1]
