Said to be from Chinese. Compare Ilocano suako, Northern Kankanay kowako (pipe), Cebuano kuwako, and Tausug kuwakuꞌ. See also Mexican Spanish chacuaco (chimney; furnace; cigarette butt) as in fumar como chacuaco (smoking excessively, literally fuming like a chimney).
