[edit]Inherited from Ottoman Turkish قوجاق (kucak), from قوچمق (koçmak, “to hug”), ultimately from Proto-Turkic *kūč- (“to embrace”). Compare dialectal kuç- (“to hug”).
Cognate with Kazakh құшақ (qūşaq, “embrace”), Kyrgyz кучак (kucak, “embrace”), Southern Altai кучак (kučak, “embrace, armful”), Uzbek quchoq (“embrace”), Uyghur قۇچاق (quchaq, “embrace”), Bashkir ҡосаҡ (qosaq, “embrace”), Turkmen gujak (“embrace”).
