- Any basic (pH > 7) toxin produced by bacteria or fungi in meat.

- Kreotoxism is poisoning by decayed or infected meats, the basic poison being kreotoxin, produced by the growth and development of the plant micro—organism kreotoxiccon.
- 2002, Huang Ju-Ming, “Clinical study on the treatment of facial spas and blepharospasm with kreotoxin A”, in Zhejiang Clinical Medical Journal, volume 1:
