Etymology

[edit]

Smoczynski derives the word from the o-grade of the root underlying krìsti (to fall), noting the existence of the phrase krañtas kriñta (the bank slopes down (towards the river)). The sense development of the noun is "drop" > "steep shore" > "bank, shore".[1]
