[edit]Cognate with Latvian krist (“fall”), and also related to Lithuanian krė̃sti (“to shake, jolt”), Latvian krèst (“to fall, drop, die”). Outside of Baltic, possibly from Proto-Indo-European *kret- (“to shake suddenly”), and related to Old Norse hrata (“fall”), Proto-Germanic *hradaz (“quick, hasty”), Old Irish crothaim (“shake”).[1]
