[edit]Borrowed from Old East Slavic колпакъ (kolpakŭ), from Ottoman Turkish قلپاق (Turkish kalpak), from Proto-Turkic or from Middle Persian kwlʾp̄k' (kulāfak, “little cap; calyx”), diminutive of kwlʾp̄ (kulāf, “cap, bonnet”), (Persian کلاهک (kolâhak), diminutive of کلاه (kolâh, “hat”)), or from Common Turkic *kalpak.
