Affixed of mudi +‎ ke- -an, inherited from Malay kemudian, from Old Malay kamudyan (attested in Laguna Copperplate Inscription). Mudi is from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *(ma-)udəhi (compare Fijian muri). Cognate with Minangkabau kudian.
