1. miscarriage: the spontaneous natural termination of a pregnancy, especially before it is viable; the fatal expulsion of a foetus from the womb before term.
2. (proscribed, in obstetrics) abortus; abortion: the expulsion from the womb of a foetus or embryo before it is fully developed, with loss of the foetus.
