[edit]Ancient Greek κάθισμα (káthisma, “seat”).
Noun
[edit]kathisma (plural kathismas or kathismata)
- A division of the psalter, used by Eastern Orthodox Christians and Eastern Catholics who follow the Byzantine Rite.
- A troparion, or hymn, chanted at matins after each such division of the psalter.
- A hinged seat used in monastic churches, having a full back attached to the wall.
