English

Noun

[edit]

karhi (countable and uncountable, plural karhis)

  1. Alternative form of kadhi (Indian chickpea curry)

Finnish

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

Most likely karhea +‎ -i. Derivation from a root *karča (twig) has also been proposed; in which case the word would be akin to Moksha кархча (karhča), Western Mari карша (karša), though this seems unlikely due to an absence of cognates elsewhere in Finnic.[1]

Pronunciation

[edit]
  • IPA(key): /ˈkɑrhi/, [ˈkɑ̝rhi]
  • Rhymes: -ɑrhi
  • Hyphenation(key): kar‧hi

Noun

[edit]

karhi

  1. wooden harrow
  2. Synonym of juuriäes (scarifier)
  3. (regional, Savonia, Kainuu, North Ostrobothnia) harrow
    Synonyms: äes, (dialectal) hara
